Sewage in a living space is Category 3 from the first inch. In Miami the source is often a corroded cast iron drain, a blocked lateral, or a stack in a condo. The water that comes up at the floor drain, the shower, or the toilet is not something we try to dry in place.
Affected porous material comes out: pad, carpet, wet baseboard, and gypsum that wicked the waste. Hard surfaces get extracted and cleaned. We contain the area so we are not tracking it through the rest of the house. A toilet overflow that stayed Category 1 is a different job. Once waste is in the water, the protocol changes.
People and pets stay out of the wet area. We use PPE rated for the work. After the material is out, the remaining structure still has to dry, and Miami humidity does not do that for free. If growth is already on the paper, Florida still requires a separate assessor before why Florida splits mold assessment from removal becomes the remediation scope we follow.
Call (305) 390-4900. Do not shop-vac sewage. Do not put it in the regular trash. We bag and dispose of it as contaminated waste.
Technician insight
If sewage reached the pad, the pad is gone. There is no cleaning that makes Category 3 pad acceptable under a living-room carpet. We will say that on the first visit rather than pretending a shampoo will do it.
